In Australia's major cities and often elsewhere, most new homes are brick veneer and double-storey. And of course, almost all of these double-storey brick homes are built around today's modern open-plan designs. Problem is, open uncluttered living areas downstairs generally means that not all of the upper walls are supported with a brick wall below. Without that support, upper walls can't be in brick, unless substantial steel lintels are installed at significant engineering and construction expense. *Or can these upper walls be real brick?*

Each of these homes, in a fairly new development in suburban Sydney, has at least one area of fibre-cement sheet on the upper floor, where there is insufficient support below for a brick veneer wall. But each of these fibro areas could be in real brick the same as the rest of the home - by using The ABC System. The The ABC System is a lightweight bracing to the timber frame.
